Description:

This tour takes you through the Principal streets of Accra, the Capital city of Ghana, to the Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum named after the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana after British colonial rule. Next, the Center for National Culture (a few Blocks away), where a large variety of African handcrafts are displayed and sold, and the National Museum with its collection ranging from prehistoric archeological discoveries to colonial antiquities and exhibits of contemporary African arts. A drive to the Osu Castle, the home of the president of Ghana, and on the National Theater, the National Conference Center, and the independent Square site. 
Lunch at Osu 
After Lunch, the next stop will be the University of Ghana at Legon, a visit to Dubois Center for PanAfrican Culture.
Day is over by 7pm. Dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Description:

Drive through the main streets of Accra, visit some Ghana department stores like Kinsway, UTC and others.Next will be the December 31st Mokola Market (the city's biggest trading market) where you experience a typical African market atmosphere. Tourists can shop for African clothes and food. After shopping at Mokola, we drive up to the George Padmore Research Library on African Affairs.

Lunch.
A drive on Graphic Road to the Kaneshie Market throught an industrial area. Sightseeing includes a variety a local and foreign manufacturers doing business in Ghana. Day over by 7pm.

CAPE COAST

Cape Coast / Elimina / Fort st. Jago
Duration: 11hrs
Breakfast Start: 8:00am

Depart to Cape Coast through the splendid beaches lined with coconut trees and by the rural fishing towns. A stop at Otsew Jukwa for a historical and culture brief at a colorful traditional military shrine. Arrive at Cape Coast for a guided tour of the historic British castle, used in the eighteenth century as one of the centers for slave dungeons, slave chains, canon guns, cannon balls and much more. There are books available for sale at the castle.

Lunch at Cape Coast.
Our exploration continues to Elimina Castle and Fort St. Jago. All the above shows the history of the slave trade and European trading companies along the shores of Africa from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries.
KUMASI

Duration: 10hrs
Breakfast Start: 8:00am

Depart Accra for Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, about 280 Km. Stop for refreshment at Koforidua. There will be another stop at Nkwakwa for a view of the Kwahu Mountains. Arrival at Kumasi by 1 p.m, check-in at one of the best hotels in Kumasi. 

Lunch. 
Tour of Kumasi will start immediately after Lunch. A guided tour of Kumasi includes the Culture and Craft Center where experts design, carve and work on tradition Ashanti stools and the famous Kente fabric. Lots of African hand-made goods will be available for sale. A drive to the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, and the Okonfo Anokye Sword Site is included in the tour. You will view a sword said to have been driven into the ground by this traditional priest with such force that it has remained there for over two hundred years. Drive back to hotel.

Duration: 10hrs
Breakfast Start: 7:00am

Leave hotel for tour of Kumasi Forts and Armed Forces Museum. Drive down to Manhyia Palace for a tour of the Ashante king's residence. Tour of the Kumasi Central Market, known to be the largest in West Africa. Market women will welcome you in the friendliest fashion, ready to sell you any item you desire, from foods to crafts.

Lunch.
After lunch, a drive to Pankronu, town of Ahwiaa, the African traditional pottery, where the famous Ashante Stood and Fertility Dools are produced. Bonwire, home of the colorful world-famous Kente fabric, woven on traditional looms, will be the next town to see. Return to Kumasi.

Duration: 11hrs
Breakfast Start: 7:00am

An hour drive to Obuasi for a guide tour of the Ashanti goldfield mines. This adventure shows how Gold is mined at one of the world's single richest Gold mines.

Lunch at Obuasi
After lunch, a drive to lake Bosomtwe. This is a lend-locked lake believed to have been formed by a failing meteorite. There will be a visit to any of the small towns, if time permits, before returning to Kumasi.

Ashante

Visit the Kumasi University of Science and Technology . Enjoy a guided tour of the library, hotels, theaters, and halls.

Lunch at 1pm .

At 2pm Check out of hotel and Return to Accra.

Aburi Botanical Gardens
Duration: 11hrs
Breakfast Start: 7:00am

Drive to Aburi Botanical Gardens by the University of Ghana Legon and Abokobi (an historical settlement of the Basel German missionaries in the second half of the 19th century). At Aburi we will walk through the vast floral-rich botanical garden. Time for shopping for African handicraft at the African gifts shops in Aburi.

Lunch

After lunch the tour proceeds to larteh, the Akonedi Shrine, a famous psychic and herbal healing center, and watch a traditional fetish cere- mony performed after a culture brief. Return to Accra.

ACCRA
Day

New Tafo/Boti Falls
Duration: 10 hrs
Breakfast Start: 8:00am

Arriving up north of Accra to the Eastern Region about 60km, we will arrive at New Tafo. You will be provided an expert tour of the Cocoa Research Institute where you will enjoy a tour through a model cocoa farm. Cocoa is Ghana's chief export.

Lunch at Koforidua the Capital of the region.

Drive up to the Boti Falls and arrive about 1pm. Boti Falls is a seasonal waterfall in the forest reserve at Huhunya. There is an additional attraction of viewing the wonder "Umbrella Rock) and a palm tree with three fruit-bearing stems.

Return to Accra Dinner.

Akosombo Dam
Duration: 10hrs
Breakfast Start: 8:00am

Depart Accra for Akosombo, north of Accra, for a conducted tour of the hydro-electric dam on Volta Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world covering an area of 80502 sq. km. With capacity of 148 ml of water.

Lunch.

You will enjoy a panoramic view of the dam and fishing activities on the lake. Cruise on the Volta Lake to Dodi Island.

Return to Accra. Dinner.

Winneba/Kokrobite Resort
Duration: 10hrs
Breakfast Start: 7:00am

Drive to Winneba, about 54 km from Accra, arriving at 8 am - just in time to see the local fishermen land their catch. Winneba is a popular breezy seaside resort. Observe how the caught fish is shared and marketed. There will also be fishermen on hand repairing their nets who will teach you their fishing techniques.

Lunch at Winneba.

After Lunch leave for Kokrobite. Academy of Africa Music and Arts, and enjoy an afternoon of African drumming and dancing performed by a resident cultural troupe.

Return to Accra. Dinner.

Larbadi Pleasure Beach
Duration: 6hrs
Breakfast Start: 8:00am

This is a day of relaxation. The Labardi Pleasure Beach is a clean and beautiful beach; it provides you with a white sandy shore and clean blue waters. There is nothing like lying on the sunny beach (temp. 100) and enjoying the cool sea breeze with African music in the background after a long 14-day Tour. Attractions include all water sports, swimming, Tug-of-war, beach volley, soccer and much more. There are snacks available for sale at the beach.

Lunch at 2pm.

Do I have to come to New York for the trip?
Yes. All tickets to and from Ghana will be booked from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York (USA).  If are not in the area you must fly from your location to New York to join the group on January 12th, 2019
How long is the flight from JFK to Ghana
The flight is approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes from take off to landing.

Can I have a single hotel room?
Yes.  You have the option of choosing single room when you register.
How many people are there to a shared room?
There are two people to each shared room
Can I choose who I share with?
Yes.  If you are traveling with someone that you would like to share a room with you can inform us on the confirmation page immediately after you register.
If I am traveling alone will you pair me with someone to share a room with?
Yes.  If you would like to register for the double room rate and do not have someone you are traveling with, we will pair you with someone of the same gender to share rooms with throughout your trip.
Do I need a passport?
YES.  You will need a passport with at least two empty pages.  You are required to secure your own passport.
Do is need a visa?
YES.  SECURING YOUR VISA IS APART OF THE SERVICE WE PROVIDE FOR YOUR TRIP.  A visa is required for all American and Canadian citizens traveling to Ghana. There are no on arrival visas, so it is important to apply well before your intended departure date. A single entry visa is valid for 3 months. We suggest you reserve your spot as soon as possible so our team can get started securing your travel visa.

REQUIREMENTS TO TRAVEL TO GHANA
  •  VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR GHANA TOURS: 
  • OUR TEAM WILL TAKE CARE OF GETTING YOUR VISA. - A visa is required for all American and Canadian citizens traveling to Ghana. There are no on arrival visas, so it is important to apply well before your intended departure date. A single entry visa is valid for 3 months. 
  • Please note that Ghana has suspended Transit Without A Visa for all nationals that require a visa to enter Ghana for business or tourism, including US and Canadian nationals. All nationals that require a visa to enter must now obtain a transit visa even if they do not leave the airport.
  •  PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR GHANA TOURS: 
  • American and Canadian citizens must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended return date in order to enter and depart the country. Each traveler is responsible for ensuring that his/her passport is up to date. Citizens of other nationalities should check with respective authorities before departure.
  • Please ensure that the name on your passport matches all travel documents we have issued. If this is not the case, please contact us immediately.
  • Please make a photocopy of your passport’s identification page and keep it separate from your original. It’s also a good idea to leave a digital copy with someone at home. This may speed up the replacement process should you lose your passport. 
  •  VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GHANA TOURS:
  • Currently Required Vaccinations: Yellow Fever
  • We always recommend that you see a doctor or health-care provider who specializes in Travel Medicine. They will best determine your vaccination and medication needs based on your health and immunization history, areas of the country you will be visiting, planned activities and up-to-the-minute requirement changes. It is advised to consult a travel doctor 4-6 weeks before departure in regards to the recommended vaccinations below:

  •  MEDICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR GHANA TOURS
  • If there are any medical items that are essential to your health, such as prescription drugs or corrective eye wear, bring duplicates and divide them between your checked bags and hand luggage. While non-prescription drugs such as aspirin are generally available, it is difficult to replace prescription items. French medications are far more readily available than US pharmaceuticals
  • Recommended Items:
  • Basic medicine kit (painkillers, band-aids, antiseptic cream, etc.)
  • Digestive aids such as Imodium, Pepto-Bismol; re-hydration salts and anti-diarrhea preparations.
  • Hydrocortisone tablets or cream for allergic skin reactions and bites
  • Anti-nausea tablets if you suffer from motion sickness
  • Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), after-sun lotion, lip balm, wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, Insect repellent

  • Cancelation and Medical Insurance is highly recommended as it can safeguard against in-country medical emergencies, lost or delayed baggage and emergency cancelation or interruption of your trip. Please ensure your policy will provide you with upfront medical coverage so that you are not responsible for a hefty medical bill. 
  •  WEATHER, SEASONS AND CLIMATE IN GHANA
  • Ghana is home to a tropical climate, with very warm temperatures as it is only a few degrees north of the Equator. The north of Ghana is hot and dry, while the south-west corner is hot and humid. There are two main seasons: the wet and the dry seasons. In the north the wet seasons occurs from March to November, while in the south it runs from April to mid-November. The average annual high for the country is 28 degrees Celsius.

  •  ELECTRICITY, PHONE AND INTERNET IN GHANA
  • Electricity in Ghana is provided at 230V/50HZ. Outlets are of the UK 3-pin variety.
  • We advise not to bring a hair dryer as it could blow a fuse.
  • Phone: Roaming charges vary between carriers, but tend to be quite costly. Consult your phone provider prior to departure to discuss overseas rates and international package options. It is also possible to purchase a SIM card locally to avoid international charges when calling numbers within Ghana. (You should check to see that your cell phone is SIM card compatible.)
  • Internet: Internet access is widely available throughout larger cities. Internet cafes are very popular, although connections may be very slow. Please note that wi-fi and internet service provided in properties is at the discretion of each establishment and we has no control over this. Please feel free to check with your Sales Consultant before travel if you’d like to know internet set up at each of your properties or contact the properties directly so you are aware of their internet policy if this is important to you. You may like to speak to your internet provider prior to travel to arrange a roaming package. 
  •  CURRENCY IN GHANA
  • The currency in Ghana is the Ghanaian Cedi (GH¢) one US dollar is roughly equivalent to 2.29 GHS. Coins in circulation come in denominations of GH¢1, 1Gp, 5Gp, 10Gp, 20Gp, and 50Gp. Banknotes in circulation are as follows: GH¢5, GH¢10, GH¢20, and GH¢50. Generally speaking, we advise bringing $50 -$75 USD per day, per person, for spending money. Be sure to bring lots of small bills for porters, wait staff and housekeeping (not obligatory and based on your satisfaction).

  •  Cancellations of confirmed bookings 60 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $500 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, or hotel deposits). 90-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price [After October 12th, 2018]. 59 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price [After November 12th, 2018].
